Acid Washing

Acid washing is a process that is done on a pebble tec® or plaster pool to remove a thin layer of the surface to remove stubborn stains and calcium deposits. The pool is drained and the sides scrubbed. Then a solution of muriatic acid and water is applied to remove the top coat of the pool. This is done manually using an acid brush. The residue is then neutralized with soda ash before being rinsed.

Benefits of Acid Washing

Benefit #1

It destroys algae.

During the “dog days” of summer, algae tends to accumulate in swimming pools, and if the surface is made of plaster, it can be stained thereby. Acids can kill these algae and restore the appearance you had when you first had your pool installed.

Benefit #2

It removes copper, magnesium and other stains.

Copper and magnesium — both of which are the by-products of various kinds of biological processes — are often deposited on the surfaces of swimming pools, where they too can leave unsightly stains.

These, too, can be removed easily with acid, as can calcium deposits, scales and scum buildup, and the original color of the finish can then be seen again.

Benefit #3

It does not damage the surface it cleans.

This particular point is true for the great majority of surface types, including black plaster, brick, white and colored plaster, and name brand finishes.

Benefit #4

It brings out a nice finish.

Acid washing is valuable not just for health reasons, but for esthetic ones as well. Many pool owners, indeed, choose to enlist our pool acid wash services simply because they want the finish to be brighter and whiter, even if things are not exactly in a swampy condition.

Acids are toxic, our team is specially trained to apply substances of that kind.

If acid washing is not performed properly, it can damage the pools surface!
